Our History
Cypher Culture was incepted in 2013 by B-boy/Community leader Dennis “Nasa” Pennalligen. Over time, Cypher Culture grew into a community-focused street dance initiative that creates space for social, cultural and community dances to be celebrated.
In 2023, Cypher Culture was incorporated as a cultural organisation by Artistic Director Efren Pamilacan, and Executive Director Geoffrey “Drumstick” Lim.

Cypher
In the realm of street dance culture, a cypher is a sacred space where dancers gather to express themselves, share their skills, and connect with each other through movement. It’s a circle formed by dancers, with one or more individuals taking turns to dance in the center while others observe, support, or respond with their own moves.
Culture
Street dance is a cultural phenomenon rooted in urban communities. It emerged as a form of self-expression and resistance, fostering a sense of community and connection among dancers. Its styles evolve organically, reflecting social trends and individual creativity. Street dance is a powerful tool for social commentary and a means of cultural exchange, enriching the art form globally.
